For many of my clients and colleagues, a lingering fear persists that pursuing ambitious technological goals may lead to complexity, high costs, and maintenance nightmares. Many of them recount tales of asking for something that was “out of scope” or “too hard to build”. Some of my colleagues have been criticized that what they proposed is going to be damn near impossible to build. For a long time, I was someone that would do that sort of criticizing.
